Inauguration of the Translation & Interpretation Certificate Course (Sinhala- Tamil- English) - for meaningful reconciliation

Sri Lanka Foundation Institute has taken initiative in presenting the certificate course in Translation & Interpretation for a meaningful reconciliation, in order to create a platform for the people of the country to learn and communicate in any of the main three languages that they feel comfortable with. The course will be a new learning experience where the participants will learn three languages and share between different cultures in one classroom.
The inauguration ceremony of the certificate course which was held on 1st July 2018, at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute was attended by Mr. A. H. M. Fowzie, Honourable State Minister of National Unity & Coexistence, Mrs Maleka Parveen, Counsellor, High Commission of the Republic of Bangladesh, Mr Upali Bandara, Chief Interpreter of the Sri Lanka parliament, Ms E M S W Iriyagama Assistant Commissioner Exam of the Department of Official Languages and Mr Sarrath Kongahage, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foundation.
Annual Certificate Award Ceremony of the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute was held on 22nd of March 2018 at the Auditorium of the Sri Lanka foundation in the presence of a large gathering. The students who successfully completed the courses conducted by the SLFI during the Academic year 2017, were awarded at the ceremony.
Chairman of the SLF Mr. Sarrath Kongahage along with the academic and management staff of the SLF, awarded the certificates and medals to the students of the following courses; Certificate Course in Counselling for Child Protection for the Officers of Department of Police, Certificate Course in Basic Tamil – 01 & 02, Certificate Course in Spoken Tamil, Certificate Course in Spoken & General Proficiency in English - Basic Level, & Intermediate Level, Certificate Course in Human Resource Management & Professional Development – 01 & 02, Certificate Course in Political Theory & Practice, Certificate Course in Basic Data Analysis and Certificate Course for Fitness Trainers.

Launch of the SLFI News Bulletin “SLF News”

The first copy of the maiden edition of the SLFI News Bulletin “SLF News” was presented to His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena, at the Presidential Secretariat on 9th January 2018 by the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foundation Mr Sarrath Kongahage also the Editorial Consultant of the News Bulletin. In the picture are Mrs Premali Wijeweera Director Finance & Administration, Dr Saman Weerawanse, Acting Director Education, Mrs Thushani Bulumulle, Assistant Director also the Editor of the News Bulletin, Mrs Manjula Moraes, Lecturer, Mr Anuhas Mahawalage, Designer of the News Bulletin and Ms Anuradha Dilrukshi, coordinator of the News Bulletin. Meeting with the Honorable Speaker of the Sri Lanka Parliament

The chairman of the Sri Lanka Foundation Mr Sarrath Kongahage met the Honorable Speaker of the Parliament MP Mr Karu Jayasuriya, with his team to present a copy of the maiden edition of the SLF News Bulletin, “SLF News” on 25th January 2018. The Speaker welcomed the SLFI Team warmly and appreciated the progress that the SLFI has recorded under the present leadership. Secretary General of the parliament Mr Dammika Dassanayake, Deputy Secretary General & Chief of Staff of the Parliament Mr Neil Iddawala, and Assistant Secretary Generals of the parliament Mrs Kushani Rohanadheera and Mr K A T K Jayathilake were also present.

One day Workshop on Public Speaking

Public speaking being an essential tool in interpersonal communication, to inform, persuade and entertain the public, it is necessary to learn as to how one would project his or her ideas to a specific audience to gain desired results. The one day workshop on Public speaking aims to impart the basics of public speaking, including presentation skills, important tips on public speaking, expressiveness, methods of time management and gaining the right composure.
Annual Convocation of the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute
The Annual Convocation of the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute was held on 14th December 2017 at the Auditorium of the SLFI in the presence of a large gathering. Mr S B Dissanayake, Honourable Minister of Social Empowerment, Welfare and Kandyan Heritage, Mr M Riaz Hamidullah, His excellency the High Commissioner for the People’s Republic of Bangladesh graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. Mr Sarrath Kongahage, the chairman of the Sri Lanka Foundation and Dr Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne, Director General of Samurdhi Authority were also among the distinguished gathering.
Higher National Diplomas and National Diplomas were conferred on approximately 350 students by the Chief Guest, covering 13 essential social disciplines. Special invitees, academic and management staff of SLFI, the visiting faculty of SLFI and parents witnessed the ceremony.
SLF E Gate is a mega enterprise of the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI), Thirasara Social and Economic Development Pvt Ltd (TSED), and Regional Development Bank (RDB, committed to empowering the middle and low income workforce of Sri Lanka to improve performances. The project aims to develop Information Technology (IT) application skills of approximately 7500 employees at a time through a highly flexible and advantageous online Education Scheme, which connects establishments and employees scattered in the island in a single learning network that they choose to log-in at their convenience.
The project’s primary goal is to supplement the IT requirement of the country in keeping with the global sustainable development targets.
Three separate National Diploma programmes will be implemented in the first phase of the project targeting public and private sector employees as National Diploma in Information Technology & Public Sector Management and National Diploma in Information Technology & Human Resource Management. Every participant of the programme will receive a valuable leaning pack consisting of a tablet, free internet connection, an instructor, online subject material, an easy payment loan plan and a recognised educational qualification (NVQ/SLQF) at the successful completion of the respective programme.
Benefits of the SLF e Gate
The SLF e Gate will be a new dimension in public and private sector learning, as it accompanies a new learning experience apart from the conventional classroom teaching which takes off a substantial time away from office and private life. Information technology is a very essential tool that directly results in high efficiency irrespective of whether it is product or service sector due to speedy processing and communication capabilities it possesses. Lack of IT infrastructure and investment facilities aggravates the technophobic attitudes of the employees, barring them from accessing to highly important skills and knowledge.
The collaborative effort initiated by the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute aims to span the gap between future and present for the public or private sector employees or any other workforce by equipping them with hardware and software facilities that will give them the apposite skills and knowledge to improve efficiency at their workplaces and in personal life though the training programmes offered online. As the first step SLF e Gate will offer three National Diploma Programmes on Information Technology & Human Resource Management.
Potential participants will be enrolled in TVEC/SLQF approved National Diploma in Information Technology & National Diploma in Human Resource Management for which they will join online using a flexible portable device (convertible laptop) that will be provided to them as a part of the online training programme.
Teaching material, assignments and classroom sessions will be made compulsory to each participant through a tutor who will monitor and assess the participant’s online performances throughout the course. There will be a facilitator institute in every region for the participants to get further guidance. At the end of the course the participants will sit for a final classroom examination. Those who will successfully complete the requirements of all the modules of the course will be awarded a recognised certificate.
